He attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in Bazetta Township. Raymond left for Air Force from the induction center in Cleveland on October 2, 1941, later attending basic training at Camp Perry in Ohio. Raymond was promoted to the rank of Corporal in October of 1942 while at the Drew Army Airfield in Florida, and to Sergeant while in Italy. He acted as assistant to the mess sergeant and as an interpreter. He saw action in the North Africa and Italian campaigns while attached to the signal corps of the Air Force. While he was stationed in Bari, Italy he met his future wife Elizabeth Maria Abbrecia who was also acting as a civilian interpreter for his base commander. Initially her father was very strict and didn't care to have his daughter courted by an American, but when he saw that Raymond was a gentleman he grew to like him. The couple was married during the war, but moved to the United States after its close. Raymond was discharged in May of 1946 and returned to work in Warren, initially at Standard Transformer, and later at Schaffer Equipment, where he remained for the next thirty-three years. Raymond and Elizabeth had two sons, Paul Anthony, born in 1949, and Eugene Raymond, born in 1952. Raymond died on December 31, 1998 in Warren, Ohio and is buried in All Souls Cemetery.
