The 1900 census shows a Matthew Flaherty living in Niles with his parents Mikel and Margaret. He is the fifth of seven children. Matthew served in World War I, 14th Bn. 5th Rgmt, F. A. R. Draft, and is buried in St. Stephens Cemetery in Niles.
