Jones. At the age of four his family moved to Warren and lived on Logan Avenue, and his mother and youngest sister later moved to 259 Harmon Avenue. He sang in the choir for six years at Christ Episcopal Church, attended Warren G. Harding High School and Kenyon and Hiram Colleges, and became the recreational director in Warren. Jenkin enlisted in in the Army on May 23rd, 1941 and trained at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and at Fort Sam Houston, and was sent overseas in November, 1942. In August, 1943 received the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct during the preparations for and execution of the landing on Sicily, and in January, 1944 he received the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action when he saved the lives of many people by disorganizing an enemy attack during one of the campaigns on the Volturno River. He was killed in action May 26, 1944 over Italy and has been interred in the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery. Gift of Sue R. Cox, niece.
