Bruton was born July 15, 1923 in Braddock, Pennsylvania, son of Robert and Laird Williams Bruton. He attended Braceville High School. Carroll married Leota Toles in 1947 and they had three children, Gwen (April 3, 1948), Carolyn (September 7, 1949) and Carroll Leon, Jr. (May 1, 1952). Mr. Bruton worked for 28 years as a welder at Republic Steel and L.T.V. Steel, and retired in 1988. He enjoyed boxing during his military service and after the war. He attended the First Baptist Church in Braceville where he resided. Mr. Bruton died May 23, 1994 at St. Elizabeth's hospital in Youngstown and was buried in Braceville Cemetery. Mr. Bruton was a Sergeant in the United States Army and served as a truck driver for the Red Ball Express, delivering fuel for the tanks in General Patton's army.
