Notes

Gift of Mary Ellen Havanas Redington, daughter of Albert R. Havanas (Hovanecz), Sr.
Albert (1908-1994), served as bundler, inspector, chief inspector and foreman at Thomas Steel from 1929-1947. There he developed the burr remover, a device for flattening steel under tension, which served to prevent machine guns from jamming. During the 1920’s and 30’s Albert was a star player of the Thomas Steel baseball team.
Clinton Thomas opened his machine shop in Warren in 1920, and soon expanded into cold rolled steel strip manufacturing. The company developed the electroplating process, which they are still using today as Thomas Steel Strip Corp., a subsidiary of Tata Steel.
Accompanying materials include promotional literature and genealogical information of Albert Havanas, Sr.
